New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions have a reputation of being impossible to keep, but that’s not true. With the right steps, you can accomplish your goals with ease.

Be Specific

Having an unspecific resolution can make it hard to keep track of how you are doing on completing your goal. Avoid creating resolutions such as losing weight, saving money, or being healthy. Instead, state the amount of weight you want to lose, the amount of money you want to save, or how you are going to be healthy.  Also, make a list of steps that you are going to take to complete your goal. Doing this let’s you know when you are on track to completing your goal. This may be demanding, but it will make your goals much easier to follow.

Make it important

Make a resolution that is important to you. Make it something that you have a real desire to accomplish. This will give you a reason to push yourself to continuing on your goal. Don’t do it because other people want you to do it, because it eventually won’t be worth it to you and it will be tempting to give up.

Be reasonable

Make sure to know your limits. Make the resolution something that is achievable to you. Instead of jumping straight into your goal, take it slowly at first, and work your way up. Pushing yourself is good, but pushing yourself too hard can end in disappointment. Keep a couple of small goals instead of one large goal.

Make your goals public

Share your goals with family and friends. This will create positive peer pressure that will push you to complete your goals. It might take some courage to tell others about your resolutions, but not wanting to let them down will drive you to success. Doing this will greatly increase your odds of completing your goals.
